But today I took the last part. It feels so good to finally have all of that behind me. Or at least for the next month or so. I won’t find out until early October whether I passed. However, I felt pretty good leaving the test center.

What this means is that I finally have free time again! I have so many projects that I want to start, I’m not sure where to begin. Right now, it’s a debate between a thick, purple braided scarf or a felted scarf with flowers. For now, though, the braid scarf is probably going to win–I’ve never felted anything before and after finally finding the yarn for this project, I don’t want to risk ruining it.

Well, I’m going to go start a project! Hopefully I’ll have enough done for a few pictures later this week.

This designing thing is so different–first, I’ve never had knitting keep me from falling asleep. In fact, when it starts to get late, knitting actually helps me relax and feel sleepy. But now that I have knitting on my mind constantly, I close my eyes and see patterns and colors that demand to be written down. I’ve tried telling myself that I’ll just remember it when I wake up, but those patterns refuse to believe me.

Fortunately, I’ve learned to just get those thoughts out–I keep a notebook (coincidentally, the notebook with my CPA study notes–more on that later) and pen next to my bed. Once a design comes into my mind, I’ll lay in the dark a while longer letting the design swirl around and come into focus. What might start as a view of a few colors suddenly sharpens into a fair isle pattern. Then, once I’ve looked at it long enough, I turn on my light and quickly sketch it out. My drawing abilities are far from matching the picture in my mind, but as the ideas come together, I’m able to add more detail later on.

The actual making will happen soon…only 4 more days until I take my last CPA exam (there are four). It’s been a year long process, and I can’t wait for it to end. If you’ve ever thought of becoming an accountant–you might want to reconsider. Just kidding–but make sure you keep your creative outlets open.

I learned to knit during my freshman year of college. A friend in my dorm was an avid knitter, constantly carrying one of her projects around with her and gladly sharing her knitting experiences. Studying for a business degree offers few creative outlets and knitting sounded like a great new craft to learn.

So, on that stormy night (when the Wisconsin Badgers beat Ohio State–the current national football champions), I finally sat down and learned how to knit. It was the most frustrating and gratifying night of knitting. From casting on, to learning the knit stitch–and pulling out all of my knitting to start again when I dropped a stitch and added even more, I had found a passion for knitting. Eventually, we had a group of 10 people who met weekly to knit, laugh, and take a break from college life.

That passion has led to many scarves and hats for myself (I always seem to misplace them) and some gifts for others. A few months ago, I discovered etsy–a fabulous place that would allow me to share my knitted goods. This blog is the start of my journey to selling my scarves, hats, and whatever other projects take a hold. Currently, this blog will primarily focus on my current projects. Check back often, though, for updates on when my store will open (and discounts!), exciting new knitting ideas, and possibly some knitting patterns.
